With Philanthropic Commitment, Dr. Rajan Mahtani Establishes Steven Malama Award

Aside from being one of the most regarded and respected businessman in Zambia, Dr. Rajan Mahtani is famous for some other positive commitments. One of these commitments has been in the field of education. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the Chairman of the Finance Bank Zambia which established the Steven Malama award to pay tribute to the late Steven Malama, a pioneer in the legal field of Zambia. The honour was established up in 2013 and from that point forward, it is given on a yearly premise to the top graduating student from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education. The top graduating student should likewise qualify the bar in their first endeavour to be eligible for the award.

The honour respects the memory and contributions of late Steven CM Malama, a recognized legal professional and bar veteran. One of the most critical commitments by the late Steven Malama was convincing the Zambian government to make an enactment that would combine the two distinct bars, the Barristers Bar and the Solicitors bar, into one single Bar. This merger was made with the goal of guaranteeing that all legal professionals and law graduates could receive affiliation from the newly established bar.

For the year 2018-19, the honour was received by Emmanuel Bwalya Kaluba, who graduated with Bar in his first endeavour. Kaluba shared an article later published at Daily Mail's Readers Forum. In this article, Kaluba expressed gratitude toward Dr. Mahtani for his critical commitment. The award carries a plaque, a certificate and a prize cash of K15,000, helping meriting students accomplish their goals without monetary limitations.
