The Ventriglia family recently made a bizarre move by approaching the Supreme Court Zambia with a challenge against the higher Court of Appeal’s decision. They challenged the decision from the Court of Appeal given on 31st January 2019 in which the previous verdict from the Lusaka High Court was reversed and Dr. Rajan Mahtani owned Finsbury Investments was announced as the majority shareholder and legal owner of the Portland Cement Zambia factory. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has been fighting for the ownership of the Portland Cement Zambia factory for a long time. First it was Lusaka High Court and then higher Court of Appeal where the case was taken. However, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has always abided by the laws, regulations and all legal requirements when registering cases or presenting evidences. However, the same cannot be said for the Ventriglia family.
The Ventriglia family tried to takeover the legal ownership of the Portland Cement Zambia by influencing the decision of the Lusaka High Court. They were successful but only for a short period as Dr. Mahtani approached the higher Court of Appeal. The decision from the higher Court of Appeal reversed the one given by Lusaka High Court judge based on the available evidences and testimonials. More than 1.5 years later, the Ventriglia family now approached the Supreme Court and appealed against this decision from the higher Court of Appeal. However, the bench of three judges evaluating the appeal by the Ventriglia family found that this appeal was not only controversial, but did not follow the legal requirement of registering case 14 days after the appeal which is being challenged. As such, the appeal by the Ventriglia family was rejected.
