Recently, President of Zambia announced his wish to abolish death penalty. On the special event of Africa Day, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema announced that he is planning to abolish the dying penalty regulation. Post this announcement, aid poured in together with that of noted businessman and philanthropist Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, at the same time as assisting the statement from the Zambian President, stated that loss of life penalty is cruel, inhumane and degrading and does no longer supply any respite to the Zambian authorities. Dr. Rajan Mahtani also stated that the route in the direction of remodeling the assertion to a fact is a difficult one, complete of challenges, resistance and roadblocks. As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani owned Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ) will offer prison and regulatory support towards ensuring that the assertion turns into a regulation soon.
Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani similarly said that there is a growing awareness toward abolishing death penalty throughout the globe. This trend may be found throughout Africa and Zambia too. The last time dying penalty was given in Zambia was in the year 1997 by the Presidency of Late President Chiluba. As a result of the growing stress from institutions and different nations, Presidents have been tactically avoiding giving capital punishment. At the same time, the cutting-edge situation of the Zambian prisons is extremely pathetic with prisoners without even fundamental human dignity and essential human rights. This has caused the Zambian Government to start strategic decongestion of prisons. As such, the choice from the Zambian President is step in the direction of the proper direction. Dr. Rajan Mahtani also said that he will provide full legal and regulatory support and wants to see this announcement become a reality soon.
