Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a noted businessman and philanthropist from Zambia. He is owner of Mahtani Group of Companies and Finsbury Investments. Dr. Mahtani was the winner of Forbes ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year’ award 2021. Forbes recognised the contributions of Dr. Mahtani towards redefining the Zambian banking sector. Dr. Mahtani was also invited in the 2021 Forbes-FIN event as a honorary speaker. He was also recognised for the philanthropic and charitable contributions. Some of his major philanthropic contributions are Prison Fellowship Zambia and Stephen Malama award and scholarship for top law graduates in Zambia. Prison Fellowship is a noted Christian Outreach Program focussing on bringing prisoners closer to God with his teachings, providing them with fundamental human rights, basic human dignity as well as giving them transparent criminal justice.
Recently, Dr. Rajan Mahtani extended his support for Zambian President’s decision. President Hakainde Hichilema made an announcement on Africa Day. He announced his plans to abolish the death penalty completely. This announcement has received significant positive response. Dr. Mahtani also supported this decision from the Zambian President. Dr. Mahtani said that his company Prison Fellowship will provide legal and regulatory support. Death penalty is inhumane, cruel and degrading. The concept of death penalty is already largely abolished across the globe and the trend can be observed across Africa and Zambia too. Prisoners in Zambia are already suffering due to lack of fundamental rights and basic human dignity. Dr. Mahtani said that death penalty will not make any change in the Zambian legal system. His company Prison Fellowship will provide legal and regulatory support towards this decision
