Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is undoubtedly one of the most prominent businessmen in Zambia. He is known for several successful businesses as well as charitable contributions including but not limited to Finsbury Investments, Mahtani Group of Companies and Finance Bank Zambia. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani in a joint effort with Finance Bank Zambia set up the Steven Malama grant in the year 2012. This honour was initiated for regarding late Steven Malama, an unmistakable law expert and bar veteran in Zambia. Late Steven Malama was a dear companion of Dr. Rajan Mahtani and was noted among his associates for his critical commitments to changing the law structure in Zambia. He was instrumental in convincing the Zambian government to combine the two particular bars into a solitary bar. This merger has helped various legitimate experts, law graduates in getting lawful affiliations in a lot simpler and less regulatory way.
These commitments of late Steven Malama was respected with the foundation of the Steven Malama grant. The main honour was allowed in the year 2013 and from that point forward, the honour is given every year. The award is given to the top graduating law candidate from the Zambia Institute of Advanced legal education after clearing the bar in their first attempt. The winner gets a plaque, certificate and cash prize of K15,000 which has been of significant support to the previous winning candidates in achieving their dreams. The award for the year 2018-19 was received by Emmanuel Bwalya Kaluba who also wrote an article thanking Dr. Mahtani for his significant contributions.
