According to the President, the concept of death penalty is an archaic one and no longer maintains any importance in the present economic system. Noted businessperson, philanthropist and charity worker from Zambia, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, has extended his full support toward this announcement.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani, in his interview excerpt at the ‘Mast Newspaper’ launched recently, iterated that death penalty is a degrading, inhumane and cruel exercise and needs to be made against the law. There is already a rising recognition throughout the globe towards removing death penalty, and this trend can be discovered throughout Zambia too. As an end result of this sizeable focus, past Presidents have avoided giving capital punishment for a long term with last death penalty given in the year 1997 and in view that then, mercy pleas are being strategically used for heading off demise penalty. Yet, none of those Presidents except the modern-day President Hakainde Hichilema, have labored toward removing this archaic and degrading regulation from its roots. As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has wholeheartedly praised the announcement made by the President.
Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is the founder of several philanthropic achievements together with Prison Fellowship Zambia.
