Death Penalty Cruel, Should Be Abolished, Claims Zambian President

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, noted businessman and entrepreneur of Zambia, has extended his wholehearted support towards the recent decision from the President of Zambia. President Hakainde Hichilema, on the eve of the Africa Day, announced his plans to abolish the death penalty row. It was a brave but necessary announcement and received widespread support from across the nation. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani who is the owner of several top companies as well as Prison Fellowship Zambia, supported this event.

While raising his voice towards abolishing this inhumane practice, Dr. Rajan Mahtani also praised the decision from the Zambian President, identifying him as a compassionate and God-loving person who respects the fundamental law and fundamental human dignity. Dr. Rajan Mahtani further stated that there are more than 380 inmates across Zambian prisons who are awaiting death penalty trial and life is already tough for them. In a similar manner, several prisoners have transformed themselves by dedicating towards the service of the God and have become law abiding citizens. As such, the announcement by Dr. Mahtani is a step in the right direction.

Several organizations have started to take initiatives after reports of the inhumane, degrading and challenging conditions of the Zambian prisons have occurred in the past. For instance, the PBZ (Parole Board of Zambia) along with the Correctional Service of Zambia has been able to release prisoners who have shown significant change and transformation in their lives. As such, the announcement of abolishing death penalty is also a step in the right direction and Dr. Mahtani provides his full support.
