Death Penalty Cruel, Must Be Abolished

Zambian President makes major announcement on Africa Day. President Hakainde Hichilema announces plans to abolish death penalty. This announcement receives support from different parts of the nation. Dr. Rajan Mahtani fully supports this announcement from the President. Dr. Mahtani is a noted philanthropist and businessman from Zambia. He founded the Prison Fellowship Zambia, a Christian Outreach Program. The program provides fundamental human rights and human dignity to Zambian prisoners. It also provides teachings and gospel of Jesus to the prisoners and ex-prisoners. Dr. Rajan Mahtani has stated that the practice of death penalty is degrading and inhumane. It does not solve the problem of corruption and crime in the nation. The condition of the Zambian Prisons is pathetic and is also observed by past President and Vice-Presidents of Zambia. The prisoners live in a dangerous and unhygienic environment which is extremely degrading and difficult. As such, the government is undergoing planned release of prisoners from the prisons across Zambia. This release is coordinated by correctional facilities, prison programs and Zambian government. Only those who have completely transformed by given release to the society. Also, those with death penalty row are already living a life in fear. Since 1997, no President of Zambia has given a death penalty and have avoided with strategic moves. While past President of Zambia have tactfully avoided death penalty, none of them have actually made any significant improvements towards managing the root cause.

This decision from the Zambian President is a step in the right direction. Dr. Rajan Mahtani has extended support in this decision via his company Prison Fellowship Zambia. Prison Fellowship will provide full legal and regulatory support towards making this announcement a reality.
